`Brega' on Slashdot!

Check out this Slashdot report:

Brazilian pop music scene thrives on piracy

Here is the direct link

Critics would say that this is just a tiny little isolated phenomenon.

Mostly because they *want* this to remain a tiny little isolated phenomenon and are afraid of losing the comforts of Holly/Bolly ... whatever `wood' ... comforts obtained by labeling the public as thieves and `pirates'.

Sir,

Illegal copying of music is STEALing. What other name you would call it?

Your comments like this will cast your whole blog valueless.

regards

The popular belief is that it is `illegal' to `copy' something - it's projected as being not just `stealing' but `PIRACY' - a term which was used to describe robbery and murder in the high seas. But popular perceptions (often shaped by the media) need not always be true. It's high time that we stop dumbly believing the logic dished out by music/software companies and look at things from other angles - we may then see things in a new light!

My request to you is to try to study the arguments put forward by those who don't believe in the "Copying-is-Stealing-and-Piracy" story and form your own opinions.

If you have already done so and still believe in the `stealing' theory, well, that's it - we agree to disagree!

If entries like this make my blog valueless, then so be it!
